Eighth generation (C8; 2020–present)[edit]Main article: Chevrolet Corvette (C8)
2020 Chevrolet CorvetteThe 2020 Corvette model, both coupe and convertible configurations of the base-model Stingray made their debut within a 3-month gap. The coupe made its debut on July 18, 2019, with three launch colors, red (with the Z51 Package), white, and blue while the convertible made its debut on October 2 at the Kennedy Space Center along with the C8.R race car, which took part at the 2020 Daytona 24 Hours.
The Corvette C8 is the first production Corvette to have a rear mid-engine configuration.[107] It is also GM's first rear mid-engine production car since the 1984 Pontiac Fiero. The base engine is a 6.2 liter naturally aspirated V8 called the LT2, this engine generates 495 horsepower and 470 lb/ft of torque when equipped with the Z51 performance package. The C8 is the first Corvette to be offered without a traditional manual transmission, while the convertible is the first Corvette with a retractable hardtop.[108]
In January 2020 the car became the most expensive charity vehicle sold that week at the Barrett-Jackson auction, selling for $3 million. The proceeds of the sale went to the Detroit Children's Fund.[109]
The LT2 saw fuel management system upgrades for the 2022 model year which featured a new fuel pump and injectors. The base price was also increased by $1200. A new IMSA GTLM Championship Edition package, limited to 1000 units, was introduced for 2022.[110]
The Corvette C8 Z06 will debut in the 2023 model year. It will feature a 670 horsepower 5.5L naturally-aspirated double overhead cam flat-plane crank V8. This engine, the LT6, is the highest horsepower naturally aspirated production V8 engine in history. The Z06 will rev to 8600 rpm and feature a magnesium dual-clutch transmission.[111]
